Overview

RS485 TO ETH (C) is an industrial serial server that bridges RS485 devices to Ethernet networks. It supports transparent TCP/UDP transmission, a Modbus RTU⇄TCP gateway, MQTT/HTTP JSON upload, and virtual COM operation. This (C) version uses a standard RJ45 Ethernet port, accepts 6–36 V DC via screw terminals, and includes power & signal isolation for robust industrial use. DIN-rail case, compact, easy to install.

Variant note: Waveshare lists multiple versions on one page. This Core Electronics listing is for RS485 TO ETH (C). If you need PoE power input, choose RS485 TO POE ETH (B) instead (same software features, PoE hardware and isolation). :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Key Features

  • RS485 ⇄ Ethernet bi-directional transparent transmission
  • Operating modes: TCP Server, TCP Client (can coexist with Server), UDP, UDP Multicast
  • Protocol gateway: Modbus RTU ⇄ Modbus TCP; RS485 data → JSON for MQTT/HTTP upload
  • Multi-host roll-polling support; user-defined heartbeat/registration packets; NTP time
  • Web configuration, DHCP/DNS support; Windows tools for discovery, config, and virtual COM
  • Industrial temperature range and DIN-rail mounting

All features above are common across the RS485 TO ETH family; (C) adds wide-range DC input and electrical isolation. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

  • Waveshare Wiki – RS485 TO ETH (C): configuration, examples, tools :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}
  • VirCom (Windows) – device discovery/config & virtual COM driver :contentReference[oaicite:5]{index=5}

Compatibility & Applications

  • Connect PLCs, meters, sensors, and other RS485 devices to IP networks
  • Modbus RTU devices exposed as Modbus TCP on LAN
  • IoT data uplink via MQTT/HTTP (JSON), with optional polling/storage modes

For PoE power input (IEEE 802.3af) choose RS485 TO POE ETH (B). If you need a basic, non-isolated version with 9–24 V input, see RS485 TO ETH (B). :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6}
