Ever go to a diner and they give you a bottle of ketchup and it says "Extra Fancy" and you're thinking to yourself "what makes this ketchup 'extra fancy' anyhow?" Well, this professional grade solder sucker is "Extra Fancy" and there's no question as to why. When you hold its machined aluminum body, you'll think "Fancy!", the smooth action and release is also "Fancy" and the replacable silicone rubber tip? "Extra Fancy!"

This Japanese upgrade to the classic $5 solder sucker is a joy to use. Since the tip is rubbery soft silicone you don't have to worry about it melting. You also get a long tube in case it gets clogged or dirty.

To use, depress the end to engage the vacuum. Then heat up the to-be-desoldered joint until it is liquid. With your other hand hold the plastic tip as close as possible to the joint and depress the button to suck up all the liquid solder. If necessary, clean up the remaining solder with wick.

The machining and finish quality of this little aluminium bodied jewel have to be seen to be believed. Internally it appears to be the same e.g. I unscrewed the front end (nozzle end only - do not unscrew the button end, according to the instructions), and was blown away with how finely manufactured even the threads are. The operation matches the manufacturing quality. Just pressing the plunger down and then releasing it, and the sounds accompanying both actions, evoke feelings that you are holding the Rolls Royce of solder suckers. I have recently seen another solder sucker from another reputable brand, and was not impressed with the size (huge) and material (plastic) they used. The tool in this review is the perfect size (main body is about 10 cm long with a 2 cm diameter) for easy one-handed operation. If ever some evidence was presented for why the Japanese are so renowned for their engineering prowess, this tool would be a prime candidate. Perfect ! (Posted on 24/06/2018)

This Solder Sucker leaves the traditional plastic ones for dead. The silicone tip allows for a kind of seal to be made to maximize the vacuum effect.
Does have a fair bit a recoil, but otherwise brilliant. (Posted on 10/02/2016)
