  • UV is important to reptiles (and people) in processing vitamin D3 which is needed to absorb calcium. Without it reptiles often suffer from Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) which leads to weak bones and can be fatal. Thankfully, pet shops have the answer, UV producing globes which can stave off the dreaded MBD. These are in the form of T8 florescent tubes or compact florescent globes and go for $50+ each. 1. Review by Stuart - Good breakout board that sets up the BH1750FVI for easy interfacing verified purchaser
    Rating
    80

The BH1750FVI is capable of detecting up to 65k lux, but it should be remembered that direct sunlight can be more than 130k lux. So a diffusor will be needed for ambient light measurement over the full range. The breakout board works well providing the VCC and DVI power on reset timing as described in the data sheet for the BH1750FVI. The I2C interface worked seamlessly with the I2C MMBasic commands in the MicroMite. The datasheet does suffer from its translation to English, but just follow the many and detailed diagrams and the mathematics as they provide the required information. (Posted on 2/09/2014)
