LoRa, short for Long Range, is a wireless communication method that is built upon ideas of low energy, long distances, noise immunity, and much more. As makers, we prefer to think of it as a wide area network (up to 40km line of sight) that provides internet access for machines and devices. Neat!
LoRa nodes are the remote devices that can number in the thousands within a single area. Nodes typically have one or more recurring tasks, such as reading sensor values. That data is transmitted via LoRa to a gateway which can typically service 10,000+ nodes, all day long.
The best way to increase range for LoRa is to get your gateway antenna higher into the air. Often, this means an outdoor setup which also calls for an antenna that can endure that environment.
If you need maximum distance for your LoRa project you need this incredibly durable, outdoor antenna with 5.8dBi gain. This 860-930MHz antenna is 900mm long...
