The PiicoDev® Expansion Board for Raspberry Pi Pico is a great way to start experimenting with Raspberry Pi Pico/RP2040. Use the on-board PiicoDev connector to quickly and easily connect with the PiicoDev family of sensor modules without soldering. Each GPIO is broken out to a female-header with labels visible on the top surface. The 2-pin battery connector allows you to take your project on the go, and power automatically transfers to the connected battery when USB power is unavailable. Four mounting holes make the Expansion Board perfect for mounting a Pico securely in your next project

This version of the Expansion Board is non-recharging, which makes it suitable for use with any battery pack 1.8 - 5.5V (with the correct connector polarity of course). For a recharging version suitable for single-cell LiPos, see the PiicoDev Lipo Expansion Board.

  • Breaks out each Pico pin, with handy labels
  • Battery connector (JST PH) to take your project on the go
  • PiicoDev connector, compatible with Qwiic and STEMMA QT (3.3V only)
  • Manufactured and supported in Australia by Core Electronics

Raspberry Pi Pico is not included - click here to buy one with pre-soldered pins (pointing down); or if you're comfortable soldering pins yourself, get one without pins

Technical Details

  • Battery Connector: 2-pin JST PH accepts 1.8-5.5V
  • Dimensions: 51x51mm
  • M2.5 mounting holes
  • PiicoDev connector: I2C0 (SCL:Pin 9, SDA:Pin 8)
  • PiicoDev connector pinout:
    • 1 GND
    • 2 3.3V
    • 3 SDA
    • 4 SCL
  • The I2C Bus presented at the PiicoDev connector has series 120Ohm resistors to prevent destructive signal undershoot (possible with long buses). These can be bridged-out by soldering jumpers JP1 & JP2. Refer to the schematic for more information.

PiicoDev Overview

PiicoDev is a ecosystem designed for rapid prototyping and maker education. The range includes:

Here are some of the features we have baked into PiicoDev:

  • Unified MicroPython libraries. The same MicroPython code examples will work on all supported platforms.
  • Simple-and-expandable connections. Modules can be connected using a 4-pin connector and daisy-chained to expand projects.
  • Breakout pins. Every module has a breakout section for optional advanced uses.
  • Consistent size. We have taken care to ensure modules are consistent sizes so that they easy for 3D printing cases, stacking and experimenting with.
  • Creative freedom. Simmer all of these features together and you end up with lots of creative freedom while still being a hands-on electronics experience.

PiicoDev electronics modules are designed and manufactured in Newcastle. They are priced for makers and education alike (affordable!). Get in touch with us if you have any questions.
