The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W continues the significant leap forward featured in the second generation of the Pico series, integrating advanced wireless capabilities. This enhancement expands its applicability in Internet of Things (IoT) projects and other applications that require robust wireless communication.

The Pico 2 W features 2.4GHz 802.11n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 5.2, giving you flexibility in your IoT or smart product designs and expanding the possibilities for your projects.

With a higher core clock speed, double the memory, Arm & RISC-V dual-core architecture, new security features, and upgraded interfacing capabilities, The second generation of Pico delivers a significant performance boost while retaining compatibility with earlier members of the Raspberry Pi Pico series, facilitating easy upgrades and integration into existing Pico projects without the need for significant hardware changes.

Supported by rich documentation and programmable in MicroPython and C / C++, the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 is the ideal microcontroller board for enthusiasts and professional developers alike.

There's more under the hood: RP2350

At the heart of the Pico 2 W lies the RP2350 microcontroller, a versatile chip featuring a dual-core architecture. Developers have the flexibility to choose a combination from:

  • Two Arm Cortex-M33 cores
  • Two Hazard3 RISC-V cores

Each configuration operates at speeds of up to 150 MHz. This dual-architecture support allows experimentation and optimization based on project requirements, making the Pico 2 W a unique platform for diverse applications.

Enhanced Security Features

The RP2350 microcontroller introduces several security enhancements:

Arm TrustZone

  • Hardware-enforced isolation between secure and non-secure code
  • Enhances system security by preventing unauthorized access to critical components

Secure Boot

  • Ensures only authenticated firmware is executed
  • Protects against unauthorized code execution and potential security breaches

Hardware Accelerators

  • SHA-256 Accelerator: Speeds up cryptographic hash functions
  • True Random Number Generator (TRNG): Generates secure keys for encryption algorithms

These features make the Pico 2 W suitable for applications requiring high levels of security, such as secure communications and data protection.

Programmable I/O (PIO)

The Pico 2 W features three PIO blocks, totaling 12 state machines. This allows developers to create custom peripherals and interfaces, such as:

  • Emulating non-native protocols
  • Generating complex waveforms
  • Handling real-time I/O tasks independently of the CPU cores
