A 400 MHz dual-core RISC-V development board for camera, display and audio projects, with dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 (LE) from an onboard ESP32-C5 co-processor.

This kit pairs the board with a 5 MP Raspberry Pi Camera (B), a speaker, an external FPC Wi-Fi antenna and connecting cables, so camera and audio projects are ready to go. Add a display separately: Waveshare lists its 5, 7, 8 and 10.1 inch DSI touch screens as supported, including the 10.1" DSI Capacitive Touch Display (800×1280).

Built around the ESP32-P4NRW32X with an integrated Image Signal Processor, H.264 encoder and Pixel Processing Accelerator, it suits computer vision and machine vision, smart-home and industrial control panels, and vending machine interfaces.

Getting started is simple:

  • Plug in a USB Type-C cable for power, program flashing and serial debugging.

  • Develop in ESP-IDF (Waveshare's recommendation), which provides a board support package and the Brookesia application.

  • Or use Arduino-ESP32, with board definitions and peripheral examples for version 3.3.11. Waveshare notes that complex examples and display combinations need individual verification.

  • Hold BOOT while powering on or resetting to enter download mode.

Features

  • Capture and encode Full HD video on-chip: 1080P @ 30 fps H.264 and JPEG encoding from the MIPI-CSI camera input

  • Drive high-resolution touch displays smoothly, with a Pixel Processing Accelerator, 2D-DMA and 1080P @ 30 fps JPEG decoding behind the MIPI-DSI output

  • Record and play back audio for voice projects using the onboard microphone, ES8311 codec and NS4150B amplifier, which drives the included speaker

  • Position the external FPC antenna for the best reception via its U.FL connector

  • Run large, graphics-heavy applications with 32 MB of in-package PSRAM and 32 MB of onboard NOR flash

  • Connect USB peripherals or act as a USB device through the USB 2.0 High-Speed OTG port; an MX1.25 4-pin to USB adapter cable is included

  • Log data and store media on a TF (microSD) card over fast 4-bit SDIO 3.0

  • Expand freely with 27 programmable GPIOs on pre-soldered 2×20 pin headers

  • Protect firmware and data with Secure Boot, Flash Encryption, cryptographic accelerators, TRNG, a Digital Signature Peripheral and a dedicated Key Management Unit
