Five inches of 720 × 1280 IPS puts roughly 294 pixels per inch in front of you - dense enough that text edges stop being visible at arm's length, and a long way past the 800 × 480 panels that dominate this size class.

Driving it over the Raspberry Pi's DSI connector means the 40-pin GPIO header stays completely free, so your HAT, sensor stack or wiring loom keeps working. It runs at up to 60Hz, and on current Raspberry Pi OS releases it is driver-free - one overlay line in config.txt and the display and touch both come up.

The touch layer is optically bonded to the panel rather than air-gapped, which kills internal reflections, removes the dust trap, and leaves a single rigid surface under 6H toughened glass. Native orientation is portrait; rotate the display and touch together in software if you want landscape.

It mounts as a unit: M2.5 standoffs on the Raspberry Pi's own 58 × 49mm hole pattern, with pogo pins delivering 5V to the display from a Pi 4B or 5 — no extra power lead.

Features

  • Frees your entire 40-pin header — DSI carries the video, unlike SPI or DPI panels that consume the GPIO bus

  • 294 PPI across 720 × 1280, so small UI text and gauge markings stay legible

  • Optical bonding eliminates the air gap for lower glare, better contrast outdoors and no dust ingress between glass and panel

  • 6H toughened glass cover survives fingernails, styluses and workshop grit

  • 5-point capacitive touch over I2C, on I2C0 by default with a jumper to move it to I2C1 if the address clashes with your other hardware

  • Driver-free on Trixie and Bookworm; Bullseye and Buster are also supported

  • Backlight brightness adjustable three ways — the desktop Screens panel, Waveshare's brightness applet, or writing 0–255 to sysfs from a script

  • 178° IPS viewing angle holds colour and contrast when the panel is mounted off-axis in a bench or panel enclosure

  • Bolts directly to the Pi on its native 58 × 49mm M2.5 pattern and takes 5V through pogo pins on a Pi 4B or 5

  • Broad board support: Raspberry Pi 5, CM5, 4B, CM4, 3B+, 3A+, 3B, CM3+ and CM3
