The DS1307 Real Time Clock developed by one of our designers: Waiman.  The module comes fully assembled and pre-programmed with the current time (ok, so it's our current time - MST). The included Lithium coin cell battery (CR1225 41mAh) will run the module for a minimum of 9 years (17 years typical) without external 5V power. The DS1307 is accessed via the I2C protocol.
Except the DS1307 real time clock, the module also integrate the I2C EEPROM chip(24C32) and the DS18B20 sensor interface. The I2C EEPROM makes it possible to save the sensor data easily without spending too much microcontroller source. And the DS18B20 interface with the pull-up resistor embeded will be helpful to extend temperature monitoring feature for your project.

DIY Tips

  • Headers can't be mounted on the battery side of the board do to the battery layout. Work arounds include: solder wires to the breakout pins; or shallow mount and solder the headers from the component side.

Customer Reviews

  1. Review by Peter - Arduino LCD RTC verified purchaser

Bought 3 of these for use in both PIC and Arduino-based timer projects. Still trying to set the current date/time in the DS1307 from Arduino. A learning lesson in Arduino code and libraries. Soldered header pins on to the DS1307 board for ease of use in breadboards. Looks well built, and comes with a battery!! (Posted on 9/01/2015)

  2. Review by Michael - Simple to use, included battery is good value verified purchaser

Following the supplied wiring diagram I was able to quickly connect this to an Arduino and use it with the RTC library. Only the VCC, Gnd, SDA and SCL lines are needed to interface and Arduino with the RTC chip; the DS line is only needed for the temperature sensor.

The build quality is good and all the solder points are clearly labelled. (Posted on 9/02/2014)
