  • Television Media Centre
  • Introduction: I have a flat screen television that is about 7 years old that I purchased before Smart TVs were commonly available. What I wanted to achieve with My Pi project was to turn my slightly old TV into a media centre. I wanted to play music through my TV as well as play saved movies and stream internet content. It was important for me to be able to stream ABC iView and SBS On Demand as they provide a free service and ...
  • Mass SD card Image Writer
  • We've built a mass SD card writer using a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, some USB hubs and SD card readers. This beast has enough ports to write 49 SD cards at once! At Core Electronics, sometimes logistics hang-ups mean that suppliers cannot meet our demand for pre-flashed SD cards. During these periods we have to pick up the slack by manually imaging blank SD cards we source ourselves. Of course, this is a super-tedious process, and ...
  • Raspberry Pi IoT Doorbell

  • Raspberry Pi OSMC - Custom Media Center
  • I wanted to upgrade my media center (RPi B+ with Xbian) to something a bit nicer, more stable and more accessible than just the RPi in a basic plastic case.

The Raspberry Pi 3 combined with ready-to-install OS and applications are dynamites beyond my expectation though I have only installed the Raspbian and Open Electric OS. Assembling the components are child-play (It is just a matter of putting the micoSD card with NOOBS into the card reader and the Raspberry Pi 3 into the case, connecting the HDMI cable to the TV, attaching a wireless mouse-keyboard via USB, and connecting the power supply to the board and switching on the power.
Installation of the my chosen OS( and there are a number to select from) is a breeze - though requiring a bit of waiting.
Setting internet connection via ethernet and WiFi is hassle-free. Same with the bluetooth.
Attaching an external hard drive and booting into OpenElec I was able to sample some videos without any problem.
On another occasion my 6 year old grandchild had fun with the Scratch application that she forgot to ask for the usual screen time.
All in all I am very happy so far with what I have experienced with the product kit.
With regards to experimenting with the GPIO, I have not explored it yet - but I am almost sure it will not disappoint.

A note: Raspberry Pi does not have a power switch - I can live with it. (Posted on 8/07/2017)
