Summary
A Raspberry Pi is not included in this kit. If you need one, try our Raspberry Pi 4 Starter Kit.

Get started coding high-tech sensors and modules with the PiicoDev® Starter Kit v1.1 for Raspberry Pi. Follow the guides to complete exciting experiments and projects, then remix the examples to create something entirely new. Work with light, colour, sound, motion, weather, touch, distance and even a graphical display.

After following the guides you'll be well acquainted with each module - but this is just the start! Multiple PiicoDev modules can be daisy-chained to create larger, more complex projects. Try combining different input and output modules by remixing example code from the guides. There are so many possible combinations!

    Kit Versions

Our latest PiicoDev Starter Kit is version 1.1.  The included hardware is listed here for the current and historical versions, along with how to identify the kit.

This kit replaces the Motion Sensor (v1 kit) with a Magnetometer (magnetic compass).

This box label is marked with "v1.1" beneath the barcode.

    The v1.1 kit includes

    • A PiicoDev Adapter / Expansion Board to suit your chosen dev-board.
    • OLED Module - a 128x64 pixel display to show text and graphics
    • 3x RGB LED Module - create dazzling patterns with three super bright tri-colour LEDs.
    • Atmospheric Sensor - measure atmospheric pressure, humidity and temperature to create your own weather station.
    • Buzzer Module - play tones and melodies. Give your project an audible alarm.
    • Colour Sensor - sample emitted or reflected light and classify objects based on their colour.
    • Capacitive Touch Sensor - add touch control to your project with three touch-pad inputs.
    • 3-axis Magnetometer - measure invisible magnetic fields to detect the proximity of a magnet, or create a magnetic compass.
    • Distance Sensor - a laser range finder with incredible precision.
    • Assorted PiicoDev Cables - 4x50mm, 2x100mm, 2x200mm
    • PiicoDev Platform - Build your project onto a sturdy platform. Suits your chosen dev-board.
    • Sturdy, PiicoDev-branded component box to keep all your parts safe.

This is the original kit, which has no version number on the box label. The label may, or may not have a barcode in the bottom right corner.

    The v1 kit includes

    PiicoDev Overview

PiicoDev is a ecosystem designed for rapid prototyping and maker education. The range includes:

Here are some of the features we have baked into PiicoDev:

    • Unified MicroPython libraries. The same MicroPython code examples will work on all supported platforms.
    • Simple-and-expandable connections. Modules can be connected using a 4-pin connector and daisy-chained to expand projects.
    • Breakout pins. Every module has a breakout section for optional advanced uses.
    • Consistent size. We have taken care to ensure modules are consistent sizes so that they easy for 3D printing cases, stacking and experimenting with.
    • Creative freedom. Simmer all of these features together and you end up with lots of creative freedom while still being a hands-on electronics experience.

PiicoDev electronics modules are designed and manufactured in Newcastle. They are priced for makers and education alike (affordable!). Get in touch with us if you have any questions.
