This is a roll of addressable (WS2812B) RGB LEDs. Each LED has a built-in controller chip which allows you to daisy-chain the LEDs and control them individually - all from a single GPIO!

Ever hear of a thing called RGB? Red, Green, Blue? How about an RGB LED? These 5mm units have four pins - Cathode is the longest pin. One for each color and a common cathode. Use this one LED for three status indicators or pulse width modulate all three and get mixed colors!
These look a lot like our NeoPixel fairy lights here, but have a funky twist. In fact, we're a little hesitant to call them NeoPixels because while they can be controlled by "NeoPixel" code, they don't function like NeoPixels. Technically, an NeoPixel is an LED that also acts as a shift register. 24 or 32 bits of brightness data comes in the input pin, and the LED removes it and passes along the rest. This is what lets folks chain as many pixels as they like onto the end: each pixel just grabs the first color data, and passes the rest down like a bucket brigade

This is a breakout board for the WS2812B RGB LED. The WS2812B is actually an RGB LED with a WS2811 built right into the LED! All the necessary pins are broken out to 0.1" spaced headers for easy bread-boarding. Several of these breakouts can even be chained together to form a display or an addressable string.
These color-changing LEDs take the work out of creating crazy, flashy, blinky… ness. Simply apply power and the LED will cycle through the RGB colorspace: no external controller necessary! These bright and festive LEDs make great decorations, LED “throwies”, indicator lights, etc. Typical forward voltage is 2V.

BlinkM is a “Smart LED”, a networkable and programmable full-color RGB LED for hobbyists, industrial designers, prototypers, and experimenters. It is designed to allow the easy addition of dynamic indicators, displays, and lighting to existing or new projects. If you’ve used up all your microcontroller PWM channels controlling RGB LEDs and still want more, BlinkM is for you. BlinkM uses a high quality, high power RGB LED and a small AVR microcontroller to allow a user to digitally control an RGB LED over a simple I2C interface. Multiple BlinkMs can be stranded together on an I2C bus allowing for some amazing light displays.
