This 5-metre roll has 30 LEDs per metre on a white coloured strip.
This is a roll of addressable (APA102c) RGB LEDs. Each LED has a built-in controller chip which allows you to daisy-chain the LEDs and control them individually! This is the same chip type that is used in DotStar LED strips. These strips have two control wires, Data and Clock. This means that you need two pins to control every strip. Having the Clock line allows this strip to be controlled by a wide range of devices without the need for machine timing (including the Raspberry Pi!). The LEDs on this strip operate at a very high refresh and PWM rate! You can send data at up to 32MHz to the pixels, and the high PWM rate makes these perfect for POV applications. These LEDs have a 20Khz PWM rate, compared to WS2812s (NeoPixels) 400Hz! The constant-current driver in each LED ensures that colour remains consistent, even if supply-voltage varies slightly from the optimal 5V. The LEDs are factory-calibrated to ensure you have consistent colours all the way along your strip.
The strip is weather-sealed in a flexible plastic jacket (easily removed, if desired) and terminated at each end with a 4-pin plug, and two additional power leads if high current is required.
Long strips can require a lot of current! Make sure you're using a power supply that is capable of running your project. We've listed the maximum current that these LEDs consume (full-brightness white) but for a typical, colourful display the current required is usually a lot lower. If you decide to go with a smaller power supply, experiment with the length of strip you need to find out its true current requirements. If you're unsure, we have a medium and high-current supply available.
