Waveshare 7inch Capacitive Touch Display (1280×800, Toughened Glass, HDMI/Type-C Interface)

Wide-gamut 1280×800 across seven inches of optically bonded IPS, with 10-point capacitive touch behind 6H toughened glass. Standard HDMI in, full-featured Type-C in, and a pair of Hi-Fi speakers inside an aluminium alloy shell.

Small touchscreens usually force a compromise: DSI/SPI panels tie you to a Raspberry Pi and use the 40-pin header, while generic HDMI monitors drop touch altogether. This panel accepts standard HDMI or full-featured Type-C, so it drives a Pi 5, a Jetson Orin, a mini PC, a Windows laptop or a phone — driver-free, with the GPIO left free.

Wiring is a two-cable job at most, and often one:

• HDMI for display, USB Type-C for touch

• Or a single full-featured Type-C cable carrying video, audio and touch together

• Raspberry Pi OS needs one config.txt entry to configure the 1280×800 mode

• Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7 identifies both display and 10-point touch on plug-in

• Brightness runs over DDC/CI — Twinkle Tray on Windows, ddcutil on Linux

Features

• Renders noticeably richer colour than typical maker panels, with a 68% NTSC gamut rather than the usual sRGB-approximate LED backlight.

• Optical bonding removes the air gap between glass and panel, so there is no parallax between your fingertip and the pixel, and no dust ingress behind the glass.

• Survives workshop life on 6H toughened glass — scratch resistance well beyond a bare plastic touch layer.

• Holds colour when viewed off-axis across a 178° IPS viewing cone, so a panel-mounted HMI stays readable from either side.

• Drops the cable count to one on full-featured Type-C hosts, carrying display, audio and touch on a single connection.

• Adjust brightness and contrast from software over DDC/CI, without reaching behind the enclosure for the OSD buttons.

• Ferrite dual-track speakers give usable audio without a separate amplifier, with a 3.5mm jack when you want headphones.

• Runs on 3W from a 5V Type-C supply — modest enough for a Pi-class power budget, provided the source delivers at least 600mA.

• Mounts on standard 50 × 50mm VESA hardware, or stands on the supplied triangular bracket for benchtop use.

• Multi-language OSD covers power, brightness and contrast control.
