This is a new version of the FTDI breakout board features an Atmega8U2 programmed as a USB-to-serial converter, the same chip found on the Arduino Uno. The 8U2 firmware uses the standard USB COM drivers, and no external driver is needed. However, on Windows, a .inf file is required.
The USB Serial Adapter has an onboard mini-USB connector and 5 pins including RX (for receiving data from the computer) and TX (for transmitting data). 5V or 3.3V(selcted by switching the jumper), Ground and a Reset pin are also exposed. Status lights include RX and TX activity.  The adapter can easily connect to the Arduino Ethernet, Mini, Mini Pro, LilyPad, LilyPad Simple, and Fio.

    1. Review by Terrence verified purchaser

This USB serial light adapter is easy to use, can do 3.3V and 5V levels with the jumper connector so it will suite many systems, once again an all round excellent product. (Posted on 28/11/2016)

    2. Review by Stuart - Bit of a todo under Windows 7 without Arduino IDE verified purchaser

The web site states that a "Windows, a .inf file is required". This is obtained from the Arduino site (http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software#toc2) by downloading (but not installing) their development environment files (i.e. use the download link "Windows ZIP file") and once unzipping them finding Arduino.inf in the "Drivers" folder, right clicking and selecting "install". This gets it all working as a virtual com port under Windows. (Posted on 19/11/2014)
