The Shapeoko v3 is a 3-axis, desktop CNC Machine kit from Carbide3D. It comes as a complete kit that can be assembled within the hour of unboxing, all you need to do is plug in your router. Carbide3D say this is an entry level CNC machine, however, we find it's plenty powerful enough for most maker's and educators out there.
The Shapeoko v3 has an cutting area of 425mm x 425 mm x 75mm (16" x 16" x 3") and an overall footprint of 725mm x 600mm (28.5" x 24"). That's plenty big for most maker projects.
The entire frame/housing supporting the machine is made from a mixture of rugged steel plates (10 gauge) and aluminium extrusions. This will help to hold the frame as square a possible amidst the chaos of machining your parts. Oh, and it's all powder coated too, meaning it's as durable as possible.
The router Carbide recommend uses a 1.25hp spindle, with the NEMA 23 stepper motors for motion control with an accuracy of about 0.127mm (0.005").
Don’t forget you can put whatever you want on the adapter ring (as long as it fits), whether that’s a laser, 3D print extrusion head, or a marker. Get creative!
Note: This version of the Shapeoko v3 does NOT include a trim router, this will need to be purchased separately. The folks at Shapeoko recommend the DeWalt DWP-611 or Makita RT0701C to use with the machine.
