The Inline DC Panel Meter Kit has all the bits you need to create an elegant, seamless DC volt/ameter. Measuring current usually means interrupting the VCC or ground return path, and 'interrupting' usually means cutting. Sparkfun designed the kit to be used 'inline' - no need to cut wires just plug your wall wart into the kit and the kit into your target device. Sparkfun found it to be really handy to measure various 12V devices (routers, WiFi APs, etc) up to 10 amps.
DC Panel Meters are a great way to instantaneously see what the voltage and current requirements are of a device. But if you're like us, it's often hard to find a panel to mount the thing to! Sparkfun designed the three PCBs to act as the 'panel' with plenty of clearance below the display. Anyone handy with a soldering iron and a screw driver will have this kit together in less than 10 minutes.
As this is a SparkX product, there's a few things you should note:
- Thermals: Sparkfun designed the PCB for maximum current capacity and removed the thermals. This means all solder joints will take more heating time. Just be patient.
- The White wire from the display goes to the pin labeled 'Ylw'. Our DC Panel Meter supplier changed wire colors on us.
- Bonus: You'll receive 8 extra screws and 12 extra standoffs. Sparkfun get our hardware in packs of ten so it just made sense to avoid breaking a bag of 10 standoffs down to four.
- Find a dead wall wart: The output is screw terminals so that you can attach a cable terminated with the barrel connector you need. Sparkfun found it most handy to find an old/dead wall wart and cut off the 5' barrel cable, then strip and tin the internal stranded wire.
The DC Barrel Jack comes with the kit but the input footprint will also allow for a 2-Pin screw terminal so if you don't need a DC barrel for the input you can pick up an extra screw terminal and solder it instead.

- $6+ for Standard Post (typically 6+ business days, tracked)
- $10+ for Express Post (typically 2+ business days, tracked)
- Pickup - Free! Only available to customers who live in the Newcastle region (must order online and only pickup after we email to notify you the order is ready). Orders placed after 2PM may not be ready until the following business day.
Non-metro addresses in WA, NT, SA & TAS can take 2+ days in addition to the above information.
Some batteries (such as LiPo) can't be shipped by Air. During checkout, Express Post and International Methods will not be an option if you have that type of battery in your shopping cart.
International Orders - the following rates are for New Zealand and will vary for other countries:
- $11+ for Pack and Track (3+ days, tracked)
- $16+ for Express International (2-5 days, tracked)
If you order lots of gear, the postage amount will increase based on the weight of your order.
