Adafruit is currently shipping R3 of the Arduino Uno

Interested in making neat stuff with an Arduino but not sure where to start? This kit includes all the pieces needed to complete 11 different circuits, along with a experimenter's guide booklet & breadboard layout sheets. Basically everything you need to be playing within minutes of its arrival. No soldering required!

Includes the Thru-hole (THM) type Arduino Uno R3. The new Uno is the latest version after the Duemilanove, with an improved USB interface chip. Like the Duemilanove, it not only has an expanded shield header with a 3.3V reference and a RESET pin (which solves the problem of how to get to the RESET pin in a shield) AND a 500mA fuse to protect your computer's USB port, but ALSO an automatic circuit to select USB or DC power without a jumper! The Uno is pin and code-compatible with the Duemilanove, Diecimilla and older Arduinos so all your shields, libraries, code will still work. The new R3 (3rd revision) of the UNO has a few minor updates, with an upgrade to the USB interface chip and additional breakouts for the i2c pins and an IORef pin. For more information about the UNO, the R3 and what the updates mean, please check Adafruit's UNO FAQ!

Note: As of July 23rd, 2015 the ARD-X is shipping with American-made Arduinos!

My sons (12 and 10) are getting into robotics programming. This is a great starter kit which introduces electronics and microcontroller programming very well for them as much as me. As another reviewer pointed out the paper overlays for the breadboard are very useful but are not quite 1:1 scale so don't fit, but are still very useful visual guides. We have it hooked up to a Raspberry Pi 2 for programming which works very well, the Arduino programming IDE installs easily into the default Raspian OS. (Posted on 3/03/2015)

An excellent combination of parts and documentation. A few minor inconsistencies such as slight differences between the illustrations and the breadboard configuration and one or two typos make it 4 star rather than 5.
Also the bread board sheets didn't quite line up with the breadboard so I gave up trying to pin the sheet to the breadboard after experiment 1.
As I've written, minor issues and I still warmly recommend the kit. (Posted on 20/02/2014)

As a software guy wanting to get into the (hobby) hardware side, this is a great starter kit. I'd highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn the basics of electronics, what the various components are and what they do, and building basic circuits.

The instruction booklet is only average, although it will suffice to get you started. The kit has everything you need to do the lessons on the Adafruit Learning System site though, which is a much better learning resource. (Posted on 8/02/2014)
