PolyAlchemy Elixir is a 3D printing plastic made up of PLA and other polymers. The resulting effect is a stunning pearlescent shine, unmatched by normal PLA. It's great for for printing busts, vases or any model that needs to stand out from the rest. PolyAlchemy has worked hard to bring you what they believe is one of the best PLA’s on the market today for FDM 3D printing, plus, it makes almost any model you print look twice as good.
Printing with PolyAlchemy can be a little different from normal filaments. First, you'll notice differences when simply loading the filament. It's likely that if you extrude the filament above your bed, you'll see it bulge up rather than extrude like a piece of string. This is no cause for concern, but simply how this filament reacts to being extruded.
If you're a LulzBot 3D Printer user, I recommend simply utilising the PolyLite PLA Standard/High Quality Print Profiles on any of the Printers to have success with Elixir. You might find some stringing is happening, in which case tune up the retraction speed/distance settings as required. Apart from that, this profile will work great. If you have any questions, get in touch with us.
If you're a hobbyist printer user and you need extra information on the print settings for Elixir, there's a great guide written by PolyAlchemy that gives you some fantastic starting points. Here's a link. As always, if you have questions/discussion on that let us know in the comments below and we can help out.
It's also important to store your PolyAlchemy in a safe and dry environment when you aren't printing with it as it can react poorly with moisture in the air. We recommend taking care when unpackaging the spool to not damage the bag beyond use, that way you can store it back in there. Humidity in the air can cause some excessive stringing (the really wispy kind, not the problematic kind). We'd recommend either printing in a drier environment, OR, simply removing the wisps post-print.
