Here is something to excite your inner geek. It's a clock kit which tells the time in LED backlit, Fibonacci sequences!
This kit has all of the hardware you'll need to assemble your very own Fibonacci clock. The parts, enclosure, power supply, rubber feet, LEDs, electronics components, everything is in there and you'll be up and running in no time (pun intended), you just need some sandpaper, glue, and clamps to assemble to box. Note that there is a small amount of soldering required for construction.
So it looks fancy, but how can you tell the time from it? Here's Adafruit's explanation:
"The secret is in the Fibonacci sequence. Green is minutes, red is hours, and purple counts as both minutes AND hours. Each square, depending on the size of the square, has a number that corresponds to help you tell time. So, for example, the top left is two, the two small squares are one, and so on. When you add the squares together and take into account the colors, you can tell the time. Sound complicated? Well...yeah - but that's part of the fun and this is a great reminder of the beauty of mathematics that's also functional (for the math inclined)."
It also comes with an instruction booklet, plus if you check out the Geekoclock support page, you can find heaps more info there. And just like many of the things that we sell, it's open source!
