PLA is the undisputed king of desktop 3D printing for its sheer ease of use and reliability. Compared to transparent PETG or Polycarbonate, this material is significantly easier to handle, requiring no heated chamber or complex bed adhesion techniques to achieve a clean result. While it lacks the high heat deflection of engineering-grade plastics, it offers superior printability and faster throughput for projects where visual aesthetics and light diffusion are the priority.

Translucent PLA is a valid choice for manufacturing - especially where non-uniform or curved geometries are required, print-in-place light diffusers, custom lampshades, and "see-through" electronic enclosures where you might want to show off internal components.
