  • Using a few bits and pieces, this ordinary coffee grinder now has two presets to run the motor for a programmable length of time. The idea being that the grinder running for a set amount of time will deliver a certain amount of coffee each button press meaning the beans can be stored unground, keeping them fresher for longer. I completed this project for a friend, Ian, who lives for coffee. Ian wanted the same functionality in h...

We decided to do so by utilising the TinkerKit Braccio from Arduino.org, alongside some 3D Printing ingenuity, for an engaging display for all ages. First thing to say is the Quality of the shield is excellent.

I bought it to drive a 2 motor small vehiclular robot. At the same time I bought a Sparkfun Motor Driver 1A Dual TB6612FNG board for a few $$ less; a different style of product admittedly although both can be used for the same task but the Sparkfun board requires the addition of connectors/soldering and needs to be mounted somehow. I have yet to try it out in a robot but by way of comparison I offer the following comments.

The Motor Shield is essentially a "plug n play" device and as such is much easier to use but adds weight and space that the Sparkfun board does not. If weight and/or space is an issue then I would probably go for the Sparkfun board. If reusability elsewhere is an issue then the Motor shield wins hands down. (Posted on 8/09/2016)

  2. Review by Ivan - Our first Arduino robot was made with this shield! verified purchaser

We are very new to Arduino and this little motor shield made it very simple to create a basic robot. We slotted it straight on the top of an Arduino Uno, connected it up to a robot chassis with dual motors and away it went! Around the same time that we finished this project, the motor chassis that we ordered from China finally turned up - so it is great to have an Australian stockist!

I'm only giving it four stars mainly because I'm not sure I qualify as an expert reviewer - but this shield works well for us. (Posted on 18/07/2015)
