Tips for Mooshimeter Maitenance

Updated 22 November 2018

Now that you have picked up your Mooshimeter, there might be a few questions you have on keeping it working well for as long as possible. As the Mooshimeter is a battery powered device, eventually the day will come where you simply cannot connect to it because the batteries have died, so we need to show you how you can replace those batteries. To keep your new batteries lasting as long as possible, you can actually place your Mooshimeter back into the low-power shipping mode when it isn't in use, so that's on our list of things you should know how to do. Finally, the fuse in your mooshimeter might need replacing, so we will walk through the steps required to swap out a fuse safely and show you where to pick up some replacement fuses that will work in your Mooshimeter.

Getting your meter in and out of Shipping Mode

In our first mooshimeter article, we discussed the startup process of a MooshiMeter which includes taking it out of the low-power shipping mode. But, what if you want to put it back into shipping mode? You'll need your mooshimeter and smart device with the latest edition of the MooshiMeter application installed. To know that your meter is on, you can look at the LED on the underside of the board - 1 blink every 10 seconds is on, 1 every 20 seconds is in shipping mode.

Connect to your mooshimeter and enter the settings section.

In this screen, you will see the Enter Shipping Mode option. Touch the Set button to place your meter back into shipping mode.

To take it back out of shipping mode, simply connect the C and Ohm probes together until the LED flashes.

Battery Replacement

The stock standard batteries that your mooshimeter ships with are Alkaline AA Batteries. If you want to know more about battery types, check out our series of articles on those topics. For replacement batteries, you have 2 options. You can choose to replace them with more Alkaline AA batteries, simply grab some from the local store and follow this guide. If you are a dedicated user of your Mooshimeter though, it might be worth grabbing some rechargeable AA batteries, so you aren't spending a load of cash on batteries. If your Mooshimeter's LED is blinking 2-3 times every other second, it's likely that your batteries are low and need replacing.

To get started with battery replacement you will need a Phillips head screwdriver and your mooshimeter.

Turn the mooshimeter face down and remove the two screws on the underside of the unit.
