The aptly named Ultimate Kit 2.0 is the final kit in the line-up of educational robots from Makeblock. With over 160 independent mechanical parts and modules, the Ultimate Kit 2.0 answers the call for almost limitless creative freedom. Match this with the MegaPi for brains and you will have all the motion control functionality that you will need. Makeblock’s Ultimate Kit 2.0 is a massive upgrade to the mBot and the Ranger and is the best way to expand your Makeblock collection.

Hey guys, it's Pat here with Core Electronics and today we'll be looking at the ultimate 2.0 10-1 kit by Makeblock. Now, this kit is the flagship robotics kit by Makeblock and it's also compatible with the Raspberry Pi. So, in this video we'll be looking at what's in the box, as well as looking at some of the design choices that Makeblock have decided to go with, to make this kit as educational and supportive as possible and then we'll be talking about the Mega Pi, which is the brains behind the ultimate kit 2.0 and then we'll finally finish off with where we go from here.

Ok so taking a quick look at the top of the box we have the 10 distinctive designs that Makeblock have made for you to make it easy to get into the robotics and give you examples of what you can do with the make block ultimate 2.0 ten-in-one robotics kit. Ok so here we have the back of the ultimate 2.0 ten-in-one robotics kit;
On the left here, we have the Mega Pi, which is the brains behind the ultimate kit 2.0.
We have the robotic arm tank configuration of the ultimate kit.
We have all the mechanical and electrical modules that we will receive in the box.
We have some of the specifications.

Now going through some of the specifications of the ultimate kit we have;
Bluetooth connectivity for the Mega Pi, so as with the ranger we can connect and control the ultimate kit whichever configuration that we decide to take.
We have encoded motors so as with the ranger all the motors are all the DC motors are encoded, so we can control up to four of those encoded motors on the Mega Pi.
We have an ultrasonic transceiver and a line falling module.
We have accelerator and gyroscope abilities.
We have a rs.25 adapter for the Mega Pi.

So, let's jump under the computer and look at the Mega Pi. Ok so here we have the Mega Pi webpage and we can set up the top here that the Mega Pi is powered by the 80 Mega 2560. Now, this is a powerful microcontroller and it really opens the possibilities for the Mega Pi and its abilities. The Mega Pi is designed around motion control, so we can drive up to ten servos simultaneously, as well as either, 8DC motors or four stepper motors at the same time as the servo motors, so it really picks up our ability to control divergent functions in our project.

Now along with this we have a maximum output of a total of 10 Amps, which is massive it gives a lot of power to all those different components that will be running, so with all this motion control ability, it's no surprise that the Mega PI is aimed towards 3d printing and CNC projects, as well as massive projects with a lot of motors involved in them. Now the Mega Pi is interface' ball with the Arduino IDE as well as the scratch-based M block programming language, which is the programming language of choice by Makeblock and it's also ineffaceable with C, if you're so desired and the thing that actually gives Mega Pi is name is its ability to interface with a Raspberry Pi. Now with the Raspberry Pi connected to the Mega Pi, we can program the Mega Pi through Python which is great news for those of you who already know Python.

If you'd like to learn more about the ultimate kit 2.0 or about Makeblock in general, make sure you check out a tutorials page on Coreelectronics.com.au or ask asked a question on the Core Electronics forum. I hope you took something from the video and I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
