Here we are at Chapter 2! Now that we have a decent idea of what 3D printing is, and how it comes together, we are going to learn how to prepare and print our first 3D model!

Transcript

Alright guys, here we are at Chapter 2 of our 3D Printing Workshop. Now that we've learned how our printer works, we're going to learn how to prepare and print our first 3D model. We'll cover installing a printer using Cura, which is our slicing software. We'll go through Cura in all aspects, looking at model manipulation, and exploring some of the advanced and basic settings to understand what they mean. Next, we'll prepare our printer, focusing on tasks like loading up our filament, ensuring our bed is nice and clean, and making sure our tool head is clean. These are basic steps you'll go over before you print.

Then, we'll examine what happens at the start and end process of our print. We'll guide you through taking your print off the bed without damaging yourself or your printer. Finally, we'll evaluate the results, possibly doing a side-by-side comparison of quick, standard, and high-quality prints. Let's jump into that by getting LulzBot's edition of Cura installed. This is the version we'll be using because we're working with a LulzBot printer. If you're using a different 3D printer, just go ahead and grab the recommended slicing software for your model. Most of the settings we'll be changing are standard across all slicers, but we've chosen the LulzBot version for compatibility with the LulzBot printer.
