Welcome back to the lab and welcome to Chapter 3 of our Raspberry Pi for Beginners Workshop. My name is Michael and in this chapter we'll be looking at shell scripting.

Now just to refresh, the shell is the program that takes our written commands and processes them. So a shell script is just a sequence of these commands. Shell scripts are powerful tools because it allows us to automate otherwise tedious tasks and we can do things like start programs just as the Raspberry Pi boots or we can run programs at a schedule so they run periodically.
