## Pricing

- **Price:** $8.95 (inc GST) — $8.14 AUD, exc GST
- **Quantity discounts:** 10+ $7.89 (exc GST) · 50+ $7.73 (exc GST)

## Availability & dispatch

- In stock, ships same business day if ordered before 2PM (Australia/Sydney).
- We can dispatch 1 today, and up to 500 more in 8–12 days.

## How to buy

- **Build a cart:** compose `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link?items=ADA1378:1` (comma-separated SKU:qty pairs) and share the link. Opening it shows a confirmation page with live pricing and stock before anything is added to the cart.
- **Verify the cart first:** fetch `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link/ADA1378:1.md` for live line prices (inc & exc GST, quantity discounts applied), stock and dispatch estimates, and totals. Append `/to/{AU-postcode}` (or `/to/{country-code}:{postcode}`) before `.md` for delivery options and prices to that destination. Unknown, retired, or out-of-stock SKUs are flagged. (Query form `cart/link.md?items=...` also works but some robots parsers refuse query strings here.)
- **Checkout** is completed on-site and includes a captcha at the payment step. Share the cart link; checkout takes it from there.
- **Search the catalogue:** `https://core-electronics.com.au/search/{query}.md` (URL-encode the query; pages 2-3 at `search/{query}/{page}.md`; `search.md?q=` also works)

## Description

Make your own smart LEDs with the same chip that is used in Adafruit's NeoPixel strip and pixels. This tiny SOIC-8 is fairly easy to solder and can drive a single common-anode RGB LED or three single-color LEDs of your choice. (The outputs are NPN transistors so they won't work with common-cathode!) The outputs are each ~18mA constant current so the color will be very consistent even if the voltage varies, and no choke resistors are required making your design minimal.

The pixels are 'chainable' by connecting the output of one chip into the input of another - see the datasheet for diagrams and pinouts. To keep the chip small, there is a single data line with a very timing-specific protocol. Since the protocol is very sensitive to timing, it requires a real-time microconroller such as an AVR, Arduino, PIC, mbed, etc. It cannot be used with a Linux-based microcomputer or interpreted microcontroller such as the netduino or Basic Stamp. [There are two speeds supported by the chip, one 400KHz and one 800KHz. Adafruit's wonderfully-written Neopixel library for Arduino supports both!](https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_NeoPixel) As it requires hand-tuned assembly it is only for AVR cores but others may have ported this chip driver code so please google around. Using the slow timing rate, 4MHz or faster processor is required.

Comes in a package with 10 individual chips. [Adafruit have a ready-to-go component for this in the Adafruit EAGLE library](https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-Eagle-Library)
