# Ultra-Wide-Band Positioning Development Kit (UWB, BU-03)

**Type:** Product page · **SKU:** CE10222 · **Brand:** [AI Thinker](https://core-electronics.com.au/brands/ai-thinker)
**Page:** https://core-electronics.com.au/ultra-wide-band-module-development-kit-bu03.html ([markdown](https://core-electronics.com.au/ultra-wide-band-module-development-kit-bu03.html.md))

Have you ever wanted the position between 2 objects? These modules output exactly that!

> ⚠ Positioning requires at least 2 modules to work - we recommend 5 for full 3D positioning!

## Pricing

- **Price:** $38.80 (inc GST) — $35.27 AUD, exc GST
- **Quantity discounts:** 5+ $34.56 (exc GST) · 12+ $33.51 (exc GST)

## Availability & dispatch

- In stock, ships same business day if ordered before 2PM (Australia/Sydney).
- We can dispatch 87 today; more stock is typically available with a 14–21 day lead time.

## Restrictions

**For use in Australia**

- Operate only in bands and with settings that are permitted for your location and application. Check this product’s supported frequencies in the description/specs.
- If you intend to operate outside shared/licence‑exempt conditions (e.g. in other bands, at higher power, with high‑gain antennas, or extended duty cycles), you must have the appropriate authorisation.

**For use in other regions**

- Follow the spectrum rules for your country/region and select frequencies and settings accordingly.

A declaration of use will need to be submitted during checkout.

## How to buy

- **Build a cart:** compose `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link?items=CE10222:1` (comma-separated SKU:qty pairs) and share the link. Opening it shows a confirmation page with live pricing and stock before anything is added to the cart.
- **Verify the cart first:** fetch `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link/CE10222:1.md` for live line prices (inc & exc GST, quantity discounts applied), stock and dispatch estimates, and totals. Append `/to/{AU-postcode}` (or `/to/{country-code}:{postcode}`) before `.md` for delivery options and prices to that destination. Unknown, retired, or out-of-stock SKUs are flagged. (Query form `cart/link.md?items=...` also works but some robots parsers refuse query strings here.)
- **Checkout** is completed on-site and includes a captcha at the payment step. Share the cart link; checkout takes it from there.
- **Search the catalogue:** `https://core-electronics.com.au/search/{query}.md` (URL-encode the query; pages 2-3 at `search/{query}/{page}.md`; `search.md?q=` also works)

## Description

The BU-03 Kit from AI Thinker brings localised positioning technology within reach for makers and hobbyists. Originally only accessible for industrial projects, this module provides precise distance measurements with an easy-to-use serial AT command interface, making it ideal for projects requiring accurate proximity or positioning, like robotics.

These measure distance between boards, so with enough of them and some math (that is handled on the devices), you can infer an XYZ position.

This compact module operates similarly to a GPS device but with a much shorter range (up to 25 metres line-of-sight). By deploying multiple base stations, two for point-to-point distance measurement, three for 2D positioning, or four for 3D positioning - along with the 'tag' that you are tracking (All are this same unit), you can achieve increasingly precise spatial awareness for your projects.

*We have a great [getting-started guide](https://core-electronics.com.au/guides/sensors/getting-started-with-ultra-wideband-and-measuring-distances-arduino-and-pico-guide/#configuring-the-bu03-boards) on it as well!*

### Specifications

- Power Supply: 5V (peak current 500mA)
- Logic Level: 3.3V
- Operating Range: Up to 25 metres (line of sight)
- Positioning Accuracy: Typically 10 centimetres
- Onboard hardware: DW3220 and STM32F103
- Interface: Serial output using AT commands

*Like GPS - it is desirable to have more than the minimum amount of reference stations (3 for 3D tracking, one tag = 4 total), more stations increases the accuracy of the position measurement.*

### Compatibility

- Microcontrollers and development boards with 3.3V logic level UART support
- Serial communication interfaces supporting AT commands
- Suitable for projects needing accurate proximity detection or indoor positioning
- Can be integrated with custom STM32 or Arduino setups with appropriate level shifting
- Works well in maker and prototyping environments, once exclusive to industrial applications
