## Description

This 143:1 gearmotor (gearbox with brushed DC motor) is a faster version of the [GM2 gearmotor](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gm2-224-1-gear-motor-offset-output.html). It is a great low-cost alternative to modified hobby servos or [Tamiya gearboxes](https://core-electronics.com.au/category/34/tamiya-motors-and-gearboxes). The low-current motor is a perfect match for Pololu's [qik 2s9v1 dual serial motor controller](https://core-electronics.com.au/pololu-qik-2s9v1-dual-serial-motor-controller.html), and the compact size makes this unit an attractive choice for small robot designs.

This gearmotor comes pre-assembled, with the gears fully enclosed. There are built-in mounting holes, and the output shaft is 7 mm in diameter with two sides flattened. **Please note that the output shaft is slightly shorter than on the [GM2](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gm2-224-1-gear-motor-offset-output.html) and [GM3](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gm3-224-1-gear-motor-90-deg-output.html) gearmotors.** Also, the green end of the output shaft should not be used (it is difficult to get to, anyway). This motor also comes with a built-in safety clutch.

Compatible products include a custom-molded [GMPW plastic wheel](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gmpw-r-red-wheel.html), and the [Solarbotics GMW motor mount](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gmw-gm2-3-8-9-gear-motor-mount-one-mount.html), which can be used as a wheel itself or as a mounting point for other wheels or mechanisms. Solarbotics makes a [mounting bracket](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gmb28-gm2-gm8-gear-motor-bracket-laser-cut-steel.html) that works with this motor, and Pololu's [L-brackets](https://core-electronics.com.au/pololu-stamped-aluminum-l-bracket-pair-for-plastic-gearmotors.html) and [extended L-brackets](https://core-electronics.com.au/pololu-extended-stamped-aluminum-l-bracket-pair-for-plastic-gearmotors.html) for plastic gearmotors are also compatible with this motor (though you might need longer screws than the ones included with the Pololu brackets).

For similar gearmotors, you might want to take a look at:

- Less expensive: [Pololu 120:1 plastic gearmotor offset output](https://core-electronics.com.au/120-1-plastic-gearmotor-offset-output.html)
- Higher torque: [GM2 gearmotor](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gm2-224-1-gear-motor-offset-output.html)
- 90 degree output shaft: [GM9 gearmotor](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gm9-143-1-gear-motor-90-deg-output.html)
- Smaller: [GM6 gearmotor](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-gm6-120-1-mini-gear-motor-offset-output.html)

To increase the power of this gearbox, you can replace the motor with a higher-power [RM2 motor](https://core-electronics.com.au/solarbotics-rm2-high-power-motor-for-gm2-3-8-9.html). For a replacement motor, see the [RM3 motor](https://core-electronics.com.au/catalog/product/view/sku/POLOLU-604).
