# Gravity: Microwave Sensor (Motion Detection)

**Type:** Product page · **SKU:** SEN0192 · **Brand:** [DFRobot](https://core-electronics.com.au/brands/dfrobot-australia)
**Page:** https://core-electronics.com.au/gravity-microwave-sensor-motion-detection.html ([markdown](https://core-electronics.com.au/gravity-microwave-sensor-motion-detection.html.md))

The microwave sensor applies the Doppler effect to detect moving objects using microwaves. This differs from the method used by a regular infrared (IR) sensor as microwave is sensitive to a variety of objects that are microwave-reflective, and its sensor readings are not affected by the ambient temperature.

## Pricing

- **Price:** $15.80 (inc GST) — $14.36 AUD, exc GST
- **Quantity discounts:** 6+ $13.65 (exc GST) · 12+ $13.07 (exc GST)

## Availability & dispatch

- In stock, ships same business day if ordered before 2PM (Australia/Sydney).
- We can dispatch 2 today, and up to 900 more in 8–12 days.

## Restrictions

**For use in Australia**

- Operate only in bands and with settings that are permitted for your location and application. Check this product’s supported frequencies in the description/specs.
- If you intend to operate outside shared/licence‑exempt conditions (e.g. in other bands, at higher power, with high‑gain antennas, or extended duty cycles), you must have the appropriate authorisation.

**For use in other regions**

- Follow the spectrum rules for your country/region and select frequencies and settings accordingly.

A declaration of use will need to be submitted during checkout.

## How to buy

- **Build a cart:** compose `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link?items=SEN0192:1` (comma-separated SKU:qty pairs) and share the link. Opening it shows a confirmation page with live pricing and stock before anything is added to the cart.
- **Verify the cart first:** fetch `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link/SEN0192:1.md` for live line prices (inc & exc GST, quantity discounts applied), stock and dispatch estimates, and totals. Append `/to/{AU-postcode}` (or `/to/{country-code}:{postcode}`) before `.md` for delivery options and prices to that destination. Unknown, retired, or out-of-stock SKUs are flagged. (Query form `cart/link.md?items=...` also works but some robots parsers refuse query strings here.)
- **Checkout** is completed on-site and includes a captcha at the payment step. Share the cart link; checkout takes it from there.
- **Search the catalogue:** `https://core-electronics.com.au/search/{query}.md` (URL-encode the query; pages 2-3 at `search/{query}/{page}.md`; `search.md?q=` also works)
- **Payment methods, purchase orders, policies and contact details:** https://core-electronics.com.au/llms.txt
## Description

The 10.525GHz microwave motion sensor applies the Doppler effect to detect moving objects using microwaves. This differs from the method used by a regular [infrared (IR) sensor](https://www.dfrobot.com/category-204.html) as microwave is sensitive to a variety of objects that are microwave-reflective, and its sensor readings are not affected by the ambient temperature.

This type of microwave sensor is widely used in industrial, transportation, and civil applications such as measuring vehicle speed, liquid levels, automatic door motion detection, automatic washing, production line material detection and car reversing sensors, etc. We've tested this sensor in the warehouse and found a few tricks to getting it working. First, the data output pin is ACTIVE LOW and will only remain low for around 60ms, your code will need to be interrupt driven to register the detection. Additionally if you are using a 3.3V logic microcontroller like a Raspberry Pi Pico then you'll need to shift down the logic levels. Michael has a code example and [more information over on our technical support forum](https://forum.core-electronics.com.au/t/gravity-microwave-sensor-motion-detection-sen0192/17067/18?u=trent).

The microwave detection method has the following advantages compared to other methods:

1. Non-contact detection
2. Readings not affected by temperature, humidity, noise, air, dust or light - suitable for harsh environments
3. Strong resistance to radio frequency interference
4. Low output, unharmful to human
5. Wide detection range and high velocity
6. Supports non-living object detection

### Applications

The microwave sensor can be useful together with other sensors to enhance its measurement accuracy. For example, [Microwave sensor](https://www.dfrobot.com/product-1140.html) could decrease the pseudo fault report rate of human motion detection. And it does a good job in safety & security work.
