## How to buy

- **Build a cart:** compose `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link?items=ADA3739:1` (comma-separated SKU:qty pairs) and share the link. Opening it shows a confirmation page with live pricing and stock before anything is added to the cart.
- **Verify the cart first:** fetch `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link/ADA3739:1.md` for live line prices (inc & exc GST, quantity discounts applied), stock and dispatch estimates, and totals. Append `/to/{AU-postcode}` (or `/to/{country-code}:{postcode}`) before `.md` for delivery options and prices to that destination. Unknown, retired, or out-of-stock SKUs are flagged. (Query form `cart/link.md?items=...` also works but some robots parsers refuse query strings here.)
- **Checkout** is completed on-site and includes a captcha at the payment step. Share the cart link; checkout takes it from there.
- **Search the catalogue:** `https://core-electronics.com.au/search/{query}.md` (URL-encode the query; pages 2-3 at `search/{query}/{page}.md`; `search.md?q=` also works)

## Description

Adafruit have had a foot pedal *switch* in the store for a while but some people have contacted Adafruit asking if there was a way to retrofit it to perform variable speed control, like a potentiometer. And here it is! This is a **Foot Pedal Potentiomenter** (a.k.a Sewing Machine Speed Controller).

This is a really nice quality one, very sturdy, with a friendly 3.5mm 'audio' connector on the end, so it's incredibly easy to integrate into your project. You can use a [3.5mm terminal-block adapter](https://core-electronics.com.au/3-5mm-1-8-stereo-audio-jack-terminal-block.html), [in-line wired jack](https://core-electronics.com.au/3-5mm-1-8-stereo-diy-free-hanging-in-line-jack.html), [breadboard jack](https://core-electronics.com.au/breadboard-friendly-3-5mm-stereo-headphone-jack.html), or [a panel mount jack](https://core-electronics.com.au/panel-mount-1-8-3-5mm-trs-jack-connector.html). A lot of the cheap samples Adafruit looked at have a wall plug, are very low resistance (because they're meant to go in-line with the mains power) or are not very durable.

When no pressure is placed on the pedal, you'll read about 20 KO. When pressed down all the way, you'll read about 1 KO, and the resistance change is linear with the motion. Connect one side to ground, then the other side to a 10K resistor pull-up to your microcontroller's logic voltage. Then read the divided analog voltage, [like you would with a photo-cell or other 'resistive' type sensor](https://learn.adafruit.com/photocells).
