**Type:** Product page · **SKU:** ADA4693 · **Brand:** [Adafruit](https://core-electronics.com.au/brands/adafruit-australia)
**Page:** https://core-electronics.com.au/esp32-s2-saola-1r-dev-kit-featuring-esp32-s2-wrover.html ([markdown](https://core-electronics.com.au/esp32-s2-saola-1r-dev-kit-featuring-esp32-s2-wrover.html.md))

ESP32-S2 Saola-1 is a small-sized ESP32-S2 based development board produced by Espressif. Just about all of the I/O pins are broken out to the pin headers on both sides for easy interfacing. Developers can either connect peripherals with jumper wires or mount ESP32-S2 Saola-1 on a breadboard - Adafruit recommend two breadboards 'side-by-side' since the Saola is a bit wide and you won't have extra holes on one side for wiring.

## Pricing

- **Price:** $32.05 (inc GST) — $29.14 AUD, exc GST
- **Quantity discounts:** 10+ $28.26 (exc GST) · 50+ $27.68 (exc GST)

## Availability & dispatch

- Out of stock — the product page offers email notification when it returns.

## How to buy

- **Build a cart:** compose `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link?items=ADA4693:1` (comma-separated SKU:qty pairs) and share the link. Opening it shows a confirmation page with live pricing and stock before anything is added to the cart.
- **Verify the cart first:** fetch `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link/ADA4693:1.md` for live line prices (inc & exc GST, quantity discounts applied), stock and dispatch estimates, and totals. Append `/to/{AU-postcode}` (or `/to/{country-code}:{postcode}`) before `.md` for delivery options and prices to that destination. Unknown, retired, or out-of-stock SKUs are flagged. (Query form `cart/link.md?items=...` also works but some robots parsers refuse query strings here.)
- **Checkout** is completed on-site and includes a captcha at the payment step. Share the cart link; checkout takes it from there.
- **Search the catalogue:** `https://core-electronics.com.au/search/{query}.md` (URL-encode the query; pages 2-3 at `search/{query}/{page}.md`; `search.md?q=` also works)

## Description

**ESP32-S2 Saola-1** is a small-sized ESP32-S2 based development board produced by Espressif.

This particular Saola comes with a WROVER module, which has 2 MB (8 Mbit) PSRAM mounted for a roomy development environment!

The micro USB connector on the Saola is wired through a CP210x USB to serial converter chip for debugging and programming. The native USB is *not* available on a USB connector - instead you'll want to pick up a [Micro B USB](https://core-electronics.com.au/usb-micro-b-breakout-board.html) connector breakout, [Type C USB](https://core-electronics.com.au/adafruit-usb-c-breakout-board-downstream-connection.html) connector breakout or [USB data cable](https://core-electronics.com.au/usb-type-a-plug-breakout-cable-with-premium-female-jumpers-30cm-long.html) and hand-wire D19/D20 to D+ and D- pads.

[We do have CircuitPython support for this board](https://circuitpython.org/board/espressif_saola_1_wrover/), but as mentioned above, you will have to wire up the USB connectivity to access the CircuitPython disk drive and serial port.

Espressif ESP32-S2 supports ESP-IDF master or version v4.2 and higher. You’ll find information to get started with ESP32-S2-Saola-1 board and hardware documentation (e.g. schematics) in [Espressif’s Documentation website](https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-idf/en/latest/esp32s2/hw-reference/esp32s2/user-guide-saola-1-v1.2.html#).

**Specifications:**
