So you know what's interesting? Open source, that's what. The way that open source designs and innovations have shaped the tech market is quite extraordinary. From platforms like Linux which encourage shareable design and open tool-sets, to the ever popular Arduino boards which allow anyone to take the Arduino board designs and manufacture their own Arduino compatible board, the world is changing.
Traditionally, open source creations have been in the realm of taking fundamental building blocks to bring a design together, then showing other people how to copy that design and make it their own. As the concept of open-source design continues to evolve, so do the ways we use it. Today, I present to you, the first Arduino compatible board running a RISC-V (RISC-five) chip. Even better is that the whole design from SiFive is based upon the Freedom Everywhere 310 SoC which packs a 32-bit core clocking in at a whopping 320MHz! This makes it the most powerful Arduino compatible board by far, beating out the incredibly powerful Teensy 3.5 and 3.6 boards.
The idea behind the Freedom Everywhere platform is that a microcontroller shouldn't be a closed system device, instead, it has an open-source instruction set, which means anyone can design the ideal chip for their application based on this platform.
