## Pricing

- **Price:** $13.70 (inc GST) — $12.45 AUD, exc GST
- **Quantity discounts:** 10+ $12.08 (exc GST) · 50+ $11.84 (exc GST)

## Availability & dispatch

- Out of stock — the product page offers email notification when it returns.

## How to buy

- **Build a cart:** compose `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link?items=ADA5879:1` (comma-separated SKU:qty pairs) and share the link. Opening it shows a confirmation page with live pricing and stock before anything is added to the cart.
- **Verify the cart first:** fetch `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link/ADA5879:1.md` for live line prices (inc & exc GST, quantity discounts applied), stock and dispatch estimates, and totals. Append `/to/{AU-postcode}` (or `/to/{country-code}:{postcode}`) before `.md` for delivery options and prices to that destination. Unknown, retired, or out-of-stock SKUs are flagged. (Query form `cart/link.md?items=...` also works but some robots parsers refuse query strings here.)
- **Checkout** is completed on-site and includes a captcha at the payment step. Share the cart link; checkout takes it from there.
- **Search the catalogue:** `https://core-electronics.com.au/search/{query}.md` (URL-encode the query; pages 2-3 at `search/{query}/{page}.md`; `search.md?q=` also works)

## Description

**UPDI** stands for Unified Program and Debug Interface, but this board is so smol and cute that we will call it the **Unusually Playful Device Interfacer** and pat its head when it does a good job. It's designed to make programming modern ATtiny chips very easy because it has 3V or 5V power and logic select, power and transmit indicator LEDs, and a quick cable for poking into a breadboard.

Adafruit have been working a lot with ATtiny816, ATtiny817 and ATtiny1616 chips lately, as for Adafruit's seesaw boards. And Adafruit are often needing to program them with a [CP2102-based breakout](https://core-electronics.com.au/adafruit-cp2102n-friend-usb-to-serial-converter.html) with a [1K resistor soldered between the RX and TX pins](https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-attiny817-seesaw/advanced-reprogramming-with-updi). But Adafruit were hankering for a nicer programmer!

This UPDI Friend makes programming such chips very easy:

- **Select between 3V or 5V power and logic** - the 3V regulator can source up to 500mA so it can run even big projects.
- **CH340E USB Serial** converter chip with cross-platform drivers
- **1K Loop-back Resistor** between RX and TX
- **USB Type C** for data and power connection to any computer
- **JST SH cable** included for quick plugging into a breadboard - you can get another [JST SH 3-pin cable with sockets](https://core-electronics.com.au/jst-sh-1mm-pitch-3-pin-to-socket-headers-cable-100mm-long.html) or with [pin header](https://core-electronics.com.au/jst-sh-compatible-1mm-pitch-3-pin-to-premium-male-headers-cable-100mm-long.html) here.
- **0.1" spaced breakout holes** for custom connections.
- **Green power OK LED**
- **Red serial activity LED**
- Inspired by this [open-source hardware design](https://github.com/wagiminator/AVR-Programmer/tree/master/SerialUPDI_Programmer) from [Stefan Wagner](https://github.com/wagiminator)!

Adafruit use Arduino IDE with the [megaTinyCore board support package](https://github.com/SpenceKonde/megaTinyCore) installed, simply select "Serial UPDI" as the programmer type, Adafruit use 230Kbps but 56Kbps is also good.
