## How to buy

- **Build a cart:** compose `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link?items=ADA6396:1` (comma-separated SKU:qty pairs) and share the link. Opening it shows a confirmation page with live pricing and stock before anything is added to the cart.
- **Verify the cart first:** fetch `https://core-electronics.com.au/cart/link/ADA6396:1.md` for live line prices (inc & exc GST, quantity discounts applied), stock and dispatch estimates, and totals. Append `/to/{AU-postcode}` (or `/to/{country-code}:{postcode}`) before `.md` for delivery options and prices to that destination. Unknown, retired, or out-of-stock SKUs are flagged. (Query form `cart/link.md?items=...` also works but some robots parsers refuse query strings here.)
- **Checkout** is completed on-site and includes a captcha at the payment step. Share the cart link; checkout takes it from there.
- **Search the catalogue:** `https://core-electronics.com.au/search/{query}.md` (URL-encode the query; pages 2-3 at `search/{query}/{page}.md`; `search.md?q=` also works)

## Description

[E-Ink/E-Paper displays](https://www.adafruit.com/search?q=E-Ink+%2F+E-Paper) make for great low-power displays that are daylight visible and keep their image even when depowered. For folks who want to DIY their own E-Ink setups, this is a **7.5" diagonal Monochrome eInk / ePaper Bare Display with 800 x 480 pixels.**

Chances are you've seen one of those new-fangled 'e-readers' like the Kindle or Nook. They have gigantic electronic paper 'static' displays - that means the image stays on the display even when power is completely disconnected. The image is also high contrast and very daylight readable. It really does look just like printed paper!

**Please note: this is the bare display element.** You need to plug it into a board with a 'standard' 24-pin FPC e-paper connector. **Adafruit recommend checking out and picking up a matching driver board**:

- **[Feather RP2040 ThinkInk](https://core-electronics.com.au/adafruit-rp2040-feather-thinkink-with-24-pin-e-paper-display-stemma-qt.html)**- solderless plug-and-play solution with Arduino or CircuitPython support. Definitely the easiest way to get started, and is what Adafruit show in the demo above
- **[eInk Feather Friend](https://core-electronics.com.au/adafruit-eink-feather-friend-with-32kb-sram.html)** - FeatherWing add-on for any Feather board)
- **[eInk Breakout Friend](https://core-electronics.com.au/adafruit-eink-breakout-friend-with-32kb-sram.html)**- breadboard-friendly adapter that gives you level-shifting and components for quick eInk connectivity.
- **[24-pin eInk / ePaper Extension Cable](https://core-electronics.com.au/24-pin-eink-epaper-extension-cable-0-5mm-pitch-25cm-long.html) + [24-pin FPC adapter](https://core-electronics.com.au/24-pin-0-5mm-ffc-fpc-extender.html)** - both together will give your eInk display a stretch so you can place it anywhere.

This is a 7.5" monochrome display. It has 800x480 black ink pixels and a white-ish background. It uses the UC8197 chipset, so make sure whatever firmware code you are planning to use has support for it. [The Arduino library Adafruit wrote does all the work for you; you can just interface with it as if it were an Adafruit\_GFX compatible display](https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_EPD).

Despite having only monochromatic pixels, it's possible to get nice looking graphics on eInk displays: [Check out Adafruit's guide on dithering](https://learn.adafruit.com/preparing-graphics-for-e-ink-displays) for how to get the best output from these panels.
